TO PAINT OR NOT?

I had the cushions professionally done and I got them yesterday.  I LOVE the pink! Before I reupholster them,  I need to decide if I want the frames painted white or leave them as is?

I think I'm going to keep this one here...

and the tufted one in the office. (Or maybe the other way around)

HOLIDAY DECOR INSPIRED BY PINTEREST

I couldn't find a wreath small enough for the federal mirror so I used a candle ring instead...

inspired by this image...

{now I just have to find a staffordshire spaniel on CL ;) }

I am having some technical difficulties with blogger.  It won't let me upload bigger images anymore(and I'm not even near the limits).  I know Kerry is experiencing the same problem.  Any suggestions for us?
Are you paying for additional storage already?

HOLIDAY SHOPPING

Thank you for all the fabric recommendations!  I knew I could count on you.  I'm going to forward all of your suggestions to my sister.

Did you take advantage of  the Black Friday and Cyber Monday shopping madness?
Nowadays, online shopping is just so convenient and easy.  Not to mention the free shipping.

Here are my favorites...

ROYAL BLUE FABRIC?

We're back!  Hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving weekend.  We had a great time with Mark's family on the East coast.

Anyway,  I am on the hunt for a royal blue fabric(for my other sister) to recover 2 ottomans.  She sent me this picture...

She is going for a resort and laid back look (like the light fixture).  The black legs of the ottomans are going to be stripped to natural wood. (Her dining table is going to be painted yellow!)  She found the above fabric but they are too expensive and she needs 8 yards!

She is also considering this fabric...
Like my younger sister,  she lives in the Philippines and I am trying to search for better alternatives for her here.

What do you think?  Do you have any royal blue fabric recommendations for me?

PRE THANKSGIVING DINNER

We usually celebrate Thanksgiving with family.  A couple of years ago, Mark and I started a yearly tradition - a Pre Thanksgiving dinner... just the 5 of us.
(We are heading to NY/NJ tomorrow to celebrate Thanksgiving with Mark's family.)

We dress up and we ask the kids to write a list of what they are thankful for.
(Simple dinner menu, I printed the free menu template from here.)

We are thankful for family, friends and good health.

Have a great week and Happy Thanksgiving Everyone!

SLIPCOVERED FRENCH SOFA/SETTEE

Domino

I was reminded of Rashida Jones' living room (specifically the french sofa) when I spotted this on CL...

But wait, the listing says "linen slipcover sofa".  No!  This is even better, especially for a family with kids or pets!

I love how tailored it is! It doesn't even look like a slipcover.

And for $350!!!  Someone get this, please!!!

This got me thinking, maybe I can just have a slipcover made for my french settee instead of having it reupholstered.  (It is definitely less expensive.)
(The legs should be showing to get that tailored look)

JENS RISOM

I don't know about you but I get a decent amount of Anonymous commenters most of which are spammers.
Remember when I showed you these chairs on my random stuff post?
Well, I got an Anonymous comment about the 2 chairs on the far left...

                                  Anonymous said...

The 2 orange chairs are the end are "Playboy" chairs by the great Jens Risom!

All comments go to my email.  When I first read it, I initially thought Spammer!  Okay, whatever playboy!   Most of the time, spam comments are caught and are blocked from appearing on my blog.  So when I saw that this particular comment wasn't blocked, I read it again.
For someone who loves mid century modern,  I'm embarrassed to admit that I don't know who Jens Risom is.

So I googled his name and found out that Risom is a Danish American furniture designer who designed the first Knoll chair in 1941!

Risom side chair - originally made of birch frame and parachute straps
(I've seen the chair before, but didn't know the name)

Jens Risom is 96!

The 2 chairs above are supposed to be the C 140 armchair and is nick-named the "Playboy chair" because Risom appeared standing next to it in the 1961 Playboy article on American furniture designers.

(From L-R:  George Nelson, Edward Wormley, Eero Saarinen, Harry Bertoia, Charles Eames and Jens Risom)

Aagghh!  I was hyperventilating at this time.  $20 for the 2. (Cost around $500-1000/per chair)
I immediately went back to the rummage sale hoping the chairs would still be there.

They were!
In not so great condition.  One was wobbly and had some bite marks(maybe dog?), the other one was okay.
In my mind,  I wasn't convinced (even for $10!)

I searched for some images on my phone for comparison and found this...

Clearly not the same chair.  The wood, the cushion and the curvature are not the same.
Wah, wah, wah!

If it seems too good to be true, it probably is!
But hey,  I learned something new!
I know how to spot a Jens Risom chair now.

Thank you Anonymous!

*Thank you for the well wishes everyone!  I feel so much better.
(I didn't wake up coughing last night.  Yes!)

SICK

I am down with a cold.  It's been several days and it's not getting any better!

Although, it didin't stop me from picking up these vintage elephant bookends yesterday...
I feel a little better already!  :)

(I need an elephant intervention!)

Hope to be back soon!

CRAIGSLIST MONDAY: DINING CHAIRS AND DINING ROOM

Happy Monday!    I can't believe Thanksgiving is around the corner.
Are you hosting this year?  Is your dining room ready?
Here are some dining chairs I found on CL...

dining table with 6 cane chairs - $125
(These are pretty and easy to update - paint and new fabric are all you need!)

drexel set - $600
(I love these Louis XV chairs.  Pretty good deal too considering the set comes with 2 servers and a buffet)

And now for the fun part.  Let's build a dining room out of craigslist finds...

wing back chairs -$155
(They are in pretty good condition but these would look good reupholstered in black and white stripes)

crystal chandelier - $250
(Love!)

curio - $50
(This would look great painted, then a contrasting color for the back and shelves)

oriental rug - $295

If I didn't have any dining room furniture,  I would seriously consider buying them all...
